The HYBRID project will help to move from multiple one-modality studies towards truly multimodality imaging and multiparametric analysis

Ronald Boellaard, PhD

Ronald Boellaard is full professor and head of the Imaging Methodology section at the Dept. of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine of the VU University Medical Centre in Amsterdam, NL. Moreover, he is also appointed at the department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging of the University Medical Center Groningen. He has a Master’s degree in biology and physics and obtained his PhD in science from the Netherlands Cancer Institute.

Prof. Boellaard’s major research interest is on (improving) quantitative PET imaging, including development and evaluation of image reconstruction methods, image processing algorithms, partial volume correction methods, semi-quantitative analysis and full pharmacokinetic modeling of (dynamic) PET studies. He is actively involved in the standardization and harmonization of quantitative FDG PET/CT studies in multi-center studies. He is the first author of the European guideline for quantitative FDG PET/CT imaging.

He has (co-)authored more than 250 peer reviewed papers. Finally, Ronald Boellaard is a member of various professional organizations and committees, such as e.g. the EANM physics committee, the EORTC imaging workgroup, FDG PET/CT technical committee and various (inter-)national working groups. Finally, he is presently coordinating several projects regarding PET/MR quantification and multi parametric image analysis.
