Karolien Goffin, PhD

Karolien Goffin studied medicine at the University of Leuven, Belgium and graduated in 2004. She trained as nuclear medicine specialist at the University Hospital Leuven and graduated as a nuclear medicine physician in 2011. During her training, she joined the PhD program and wrote her PhD thesis on ‘In vivo imaging of the cannabinoid type 1 receptor in epilepsy’, which she defended in 2009. She joined the division of nuclear medicine of the University Hospital Leuven as deputy head of clinic and became assistant professor at the department of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging of the KU Leuven in 2011. Today, she is leading the nuclear medicine clinical and research program (clinical as well as preclinical) in the fields of epilepsy, neuro-oncology, endocrinology, uro-oncology and head-and-neck-oncology. She is also quality manager of the ISO 9001:2015 and EN 15224:2016 quality management systems at the department of nuclear medicine of the University Hospital Leuven.
