Bernd Pichler, Prof. Dr.
Prof. Dr. Bernd Pichler is the Director of the Department of Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (EKUT). Prof. Pichler studied electrical engineering with focus on biomedical engineering and cybernetics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and finished his diploma thesis in 1997 at the Max-Planck-Institute for Physics, Munich and the Department of Nuclear Medicine, TUM, in the field of detector development for small animal positron emission tomography. After earning his PhD in Physics at the Department of Nuclear Medicine, TUM, in 2002, Prof. Pichler spent two years as Assistant Research Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis. He pursued his scientific career as head of the Laboratory for Preclinical Imaging and Imaging Technology at the Department of Radiology of EKUT where he received his habilitation in 2007. Prof. Pichler accepted the call for the full professorship at EKUT in 2008 and raised more than 40 Million Euro grants within the last ten years. Prof. Pichler pioneered the development of preclinical and clinical PET/MRI and holds major patents for this technology.
